This year, the Economy Days will start on Tuesday, 4 February, in the morning and continue on Wednesday, 5 February, in the afternoon. Both sessions will take place at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce. The latter has organised the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Fedil, as well as with the support of PwC Luxembourg. Attendees will include entrepreneurs, economists and public officials from Luxembourg and the Greater Region.

This eighth edition of the Economy Days will take place in a unique economic and political context, only a few months after the elections, that is to say: the new economic programme of the government. Economists and actors in the economic and social life will debate the major challenges faced by the country and the potential drivers of sustainable economic growth. The promotion of Luxembourg’s image abroad and the key factors contributing to the country’s attractiveness will also be on the agenda.

Tuesday, 4 February: the economic programme of the new government

Following the welcome speech by Didier Mouget, Managing Partner at PwC Luxembourg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic Affairs Etienne Schneider will present the government’s economic course of action. The economist Jean-Marc Fournier will then go into the recent OECD recommendation for supporting and diversifying the drivers of a sustainable growth in Luxembourg.

Caroline Mart, Deputy Editor-in-Chief at RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg, will host a panel debate on economic policy as a contributor to Luxembourg’s future development. The participants - unionists, representatives of professional associations, entrepreneurs and economists – will respond to the government’s programme and express their vision for the future of the country. The debate will be open to all through the possibility of sending comments and questions via the Economy Days Twitter account @JE2014_lux or by using #RéinventerLuxembourg.

Wednesday, 5 February: Export, Clusters, Nation Branding: three opportunities to expand Luxembourg

On the morning of Wednesday, 5 February, the discussions will focus on the promotion of Luxembourg abroad and the key factors contributing to the country’s attractiveness. The emphasis will be on three key topics:
-    Export, with an overview of country risks: advanced economies and new markets, presented by Yves Zlotowski, Chief Economist, Country Risk and Economic Research Department, COFACE.
-    Clusters, with key success factors to obtain international visibility, presented by David Brown, Chairman, Alchemy Biomedical Consulting.
-    Nation Branding, with the example of Sweden presented by Annika Rembe, Director-General of the Swedish Institute.

Hosted by Philippe Leyers, journalist from the Luxemburger Wort, the ensuing panel discussion will explore the evolution of Luxembourg’s image abroad. Panellists will debate on the best strategy to boost Luxembourg’s image and strengthen the country’s attractiveness.
